Story Behind the Piece:

There are creeks in the desert that hold water long after everything else has dried away.

Places people return to quietly.

This painting came from one of those places behind Beyondie. Clean sand and water sitting still beneath the cool shade of the gumtrees. The open space in the painting became just as important to me as the marks themselves. It carries that feeling of distance and dryness surrounding the creekline.

I wanted this work to feel restrained and quiet. Almost like the country is holding its breath.

Heading to Wentworth Gallery.
