The Look, 2026
100 x 150 cm, Acrylic on Canvas
Background
These two station dogs carry a familiar kind of confidence.
They stand close together, alert and self-possessed, wearing the kind of expression that feels half judgement, half amusement. Out in the desert, dogs are always watching. They know what is happening before anyone says a word.
In this painting I was exploring a softer, more neutral palette, drawing on colours that sit easily in coastal interiors while still holding the warmth of desert country. The splash of orange brings that warmth back in, like the sun setting in the west, holding the last heat of the day across the country.
