Clever shadows on the fence line
These paintings come from memories of Beyondie Station, where dingoes were rarely seen yet always felt. Back then, they were classed as vermin, and doggers were hired to bait and trap them.
When I was a kid, doggers often dropped into the station. They’d show me the huge steel traps… like shark jaws… and tell stories about the dingoes too smart to be caught. Some would walk in wide circles around the traps, testing the wind, vanishing back into the scrub before anyone even knew they were there.
On canvas, I honour both truths: the hard history and the animal’s brilliance. You’ll see alert ears and bright eyes, tense shoulders and quick feet… survivors shaped by heat, hunger, and long horizons.
Sometimes I let humour in: sunglasses, side-eye, a knowing grin. Because out here, laughter and respect travel together. These are the cheeky dingoes that got away.
These are current works from my studio. As pieces are finished, some head straight to Wentworth Galleries (Brisbane & Sydney), while a small number may be available by commission. If something here speaks to you, reach out…availability shifts fast.
