Commissions

Introduction

Dr. Reece George is a proud Martu artist blending ancient desert wisdom with contemporary artistry. He accepts only a few private commissions each year, ensuring that each piece is crafted with personal care. Every commissioned painting is a completely original, hand-painted canvas imbued with the storytelling and cultural depth of Martu Country. These bespoke works are exceedingly rare, making them highly prized by collectors. Reviewers note George’s “vibrant storytelling” and “investment-quality craftsmanship”…  assurances that each commission will be both emotionally rich and built to last. In essence, his collection is described as a place “where ancient Martu stories meet contemporary elegance” and this ethos shines through in every custom creation.

In the studio, each commission begins with conversation: George listens to the client’s story or vision and then interprets it through Martu symbols and color. He works respectfully and collaboratively, treating each painting as a cultural expression tied to history and spirit. For example, stylized native birds (as seen above) might be used to symbolise family bonds or ancestral memory. Because only a few commissions are taken on, each painting receives the utmost care… on par with his finest gallery pieces. The result is a living canvas that bridges Martu heritage and contemporary life, valued for its rich narrative and fine craftsmanship.

Private Memorials

Reece George also offers a deeply personal memorial service through his art. These rare commissions commemorate a cherished life… for instance, a beloved pet, a family member, or an important ancestral story. The artist handles each project with the utmost sensitivity and respect for its emotional significance. Drawing on Martu lore and imagery, he composes a visual tribute that honors the spirit of the person or pet being memorialised. Each memorial painting is bespoke and deeply heartfelt; treated as a treasured heirloom by its owner. The final artwork becomes a celebration of life and memory… a one-of-a-kind tribute that words alone could never convey.

Inspired by Sold Works

Some collectors request a new painting inspired by an earlier piece that has sold. George welcomes these requests but upholds strict originality: he never creates exact copies of any work. Instead, he draws on the spirit of the original… its theme, palette or energy… to compose an entirely new scene. The result echoes the admired piece’s mood without duplicating its design. For example, a collector might ask for artwork recalling the joyful colors of a previous painting; the artist would answer this by conjuring similar warmth and motifs in a fresh narrative. In this way, every commissioned painting remains wholly original, preserving artistic integrity while honoring the inspiration.

Through the Gallery or Direct

  • Through a Representing Gallery (Wentworth or Manyung): Collectors may arrange a commission via Reece’s official galleries: Wentworth Galleries in Sydney/Brisbane or Manyung Gallery Group in Victoria. Commissioning through the gallery offers a white‑glove, blue‑chip experience. The gallery handles every detail (meetings, documentation, framing, installation, etc.) and delivers the finished painting ready to display in a custom frame. Each commissioned work from the gallery path is professionally presented and reflects the exacting standards of both the artist and gallery.

  • Direct from the Artist’s Studio: Alternatively, one may commission Reece directly through his studio. This path involves a personal, one‑on‑one collaboration. The completed painting is typically delivered unframed (rolled in a tube), allowing the collector to select and add their own framing later. Although the process is more intimate, the quality is identical: every commission meets the same high bar of excellence. Both pathways uphold the artist’s integrity and craftsmanship, so clients may choose based on their preference without compromising on prestige or quality.

Timeframes & Availability

Reece George is a prolific painter. He typically completes commissioned works in 2–4 weeks, depending on the project’s complexity and his schedule. Even with this swift turnaround, no shortcuts are taken: each painting receives the same meticulous care and craftsmanship as his gallery pieces. All commissions are genuine acrylic-on-canvas originals, aligning with the quality expected by Wentworth and Manyung clients. Because slots for private commissions are strictly limited, interested collectors are encouraged to inquire well in advance. The finished artwork is delivered ready for exhibition, meeting the high standards of presentation and storytelling that defined its creation.

Enquiry Invitation

Collectors interested in commissioning a bespoke artwork are invited to make an enquiry. Each request will be handled with discretion and personal attention. The process is a collaborative journey: George will listen closely to the client’s ideas and ensure they are respected at every step. Given the exclusivity of this service, it is advisable to initiate discussions early. The result will be a one-of-a-kind painting that resonates with the collector’s personal narrative while honoring the richness of Martu culture and tradition.
