A Personal Commission
Dr. Reece George accepts a limited number of private commissions each year, allowing each work to be created with time, care, and close attention.
Every commissioned painting is an original hand-painted canvas, shaped by conversation and grounded in the storytelling, colour, and cultural depth of Martu Country. These works are not reproductions of existing paintings, but new pieces created in response to a collector’s space, story, or feeling.
For Reece, a commission begins by listening. In the studio, each work starts with a conversation about what matters to the client… a memory, a sense of place, a family connection, or simply the atmosphere they hope to bring into a room. From there, he interprets those ideas through his own visual language, creating a painting that feels both personal and true to his practice.
Some works carry quiet strength. Others hold warmth, humour, or playfulness. All are created with the same care and integrity as his gallery paintings.
The result is a deeply personal artwork: one that carries story, presence, and a living connection between Martu heritage and contemporary life.
Inspired by Sold Works
Some collectors enquire about commissioning a new work inspired by a painting that has already sold.
Reece welcomes this kind of request, while maintaining a clear commitment to originality. He does not create exact copies of previous works. Instead, he responds to what drew the collector to the original… perhaps its palette, mood, subject, or energy… and creates a new painting that carries that spirit in a fresh and individual way.
This means each commission remains a one-of-a-kind original, while still honouring the feeling that first sparked the enquiry.
For example, a collector may be drawn to the warmth and humour of an earlier animal painting, or the quiet strength of a portrait. A new commission can respond to that same feeling while becoming something entirely its own.
Each dog has its own personality.
Through the Gallery or Direct
Collectors may commission a work either through Reece’s representing galleries or directly through his studio.
Through a Representing Gallery
Commissions can be arranged through Wentworth Galleries in Sydney and Brisbane, or Manyung Gallery Group in Victoria. This pathway offers the support of the gallery team throughout the process, including communication, documentation, framing, delivery, and installation.
Direct Through the Studio
Collectors may also commission Reece directly through his studio. This option offers a more personal one-to-one process, with the finished work typically supplied unframed and rolled for shipping, allowing the collector to arrange framing to suit their own space.
Whichever path is chosen, the artwork itself is created with the same care, attention, and artistic integrity.
Timeframes and Availability
Commission timeframes are usually around 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the scale and complexity of the work, as well as Reece’s current schedule.
Because only a small number of private commissions are accepted each year, availability can be limited. Early enquiries are always welcome.
Each commission is an original acrylic-on-canvas painting, created with the same thoughtfulness and quality as the works shown through his galleries.
Make an Enquiry
If you are considering a commissioned artwork, you are warmly invited to get in touch.
Whether you have a clear idea in mind or are simply beginning the conversation, Reece approaches each commission with care, openness, and respect. The process is collaborative, thoughtful, and shaped around creating a work that feels meaningful both to the collector and to the artist’s practice.
The final painting will be a one-of-a-kind original… made to live with, to return to, and to hold its own story over time.
