Martu Woman (Evelyn)

Martu Woman (Evelyn)
2024, Acrylic on Canvas, 85 x 113 cm

Story Behind the Piece:

Evelyn stood at the edge of the desert, her hair catching the golden glow of a fading sun. She was the kind of person who could feel the whispers of the land in her bones. This painting captures her essence: a bold spirit grounded in ancient wisdom yet pulsing with modern strength.

The intricate white patterns across her face and body tell a story of connection—each line tracing the pathways of kinship, the cycles of the seasons, and the enduring relationship between people and Country. Her vibrant orange lips and accents speak to her fire, her voice—a blend of soft power and fierce determination—encouraging those around her to embrace their roots while forging ahead into the unknown.

Evelyn’s presence was transformative. She reminded her community that while the past offers guidance, the future is theirs to shape. This artwork invites you to explore her layered world: the lines of tradition meeting the colors of possibility.
